Kitchener Memorial Auditorium Accessibility Renovations

Interventions for Accessibility

Making a big difference with small changes

Description:

As part of the long term accessibility goals for the Province of Ontario, The City of Kitchener sought to address the accessibility deficiencies of several of its public recreational facilities.

JMA was commissioned by the City to complete accessibility renovations for two of these facilities: the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium Complex and Lyle Hallman Pool.

Renovations to the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium Complex included working with Mighton Engineering to improve lighting to the entry and lobby of the auditorium. Modifications were also made to the stairs and railings of the entrance lobby and to its doors and hardware.

These modifications addressed several different building systems:

- Barrier-Free Path of Travel System

- Emergency Egress System

- Fire Separation System
