Paris Lawn Bowling Club

Community Spirit

This study offered a clearer vision for the future of the Paris Lawn Bowling Club

Description:

John MacDonald Architect was commissioned by the County of Brant to produce a feasibility and business plan report that established the future direction, priority and capital investments required to support the Paris Lawn Bowling Club (PLBC), and whether to rebuild or relocate this facility. Based on JMA's findings, the decision was made to rebuild the facility.

Our Role:

Community consultations; review of existing conditions; review opportunities for the ongoing sustainability of the club and recommendations for the operations and governance of the Paris Lawn Bowling Club; Schematic Design and capital and operational costs for the selected option.

Achievements:

JMA produced a study that focused on a design strategy for sustained Club and increased community use of the present PLBC location. It included cost-effective renewal of the physical asset in support of this increased use, a plan for leveraging the asset in support of increased community use of the neighbouring Paris Presbyterian Church facility through active partnership, and reduction of the present level of County staff operating cost support for the maintenance of the Club greens.

“I was not conviced that we should be investing in this facility, but then I read the report and changed my mind.”

— County of Brant Municipal Councillor
