GRCA Administrative Office – Renovations Study

Designing For Everyone

Assessing Options for Modern and Accessible Office Improvements

Description:

Located adjacent to the Shade’s Mills Conservation Area, the GRCA’s Administrative Centre was constructed in the early 1970’s. While minor upgrades have occurred in the years since, the building is in need of renovations to be brought to modern standards, including those for accessibility. JMA was tasked with completing a feasibility study for the redesign of washrooms and the provision of an elevator. The study explored potential reconfigurations, as well as construction time and cost estimates, and forms the basis for the implementation phase.

Our Role:

JMA provided an OBC review, Schematic Washroom Layouts and a Cost Estimate report.

Achievements:

JMA proposed a number of layout options, of which the GRCA selected Washroom Layout Option D for implementation. This option aims to provide as many washrooms as possible, with a continuous corridor and two exits. Option D also proposes a shift from gendered washrooms to single occupant washrooms.
